Position Description
Directs all phases of the Field Claims Office or Center of Excellence operation within an assigned territory.
SCOPE
Multiple locations, or complement > 45, or complex claims (i.e. construction defect).
Position Requirements
Supervises assigned personnel. (See attached description of Supervisory Responsibilities.)
Ensures that training programs are properly utilized.
Authorizes and/or approves all claims payments in conformity with established limits of authority.
Submits cases exceeding own authority with personal recommendation to the appropriate Director.
Reviews and resolves coverage matters within authority.
Oversees the preparation and control of the budget, quarterly operations and strategic business plan for the CSC or COE.
Reviews the settlement/collection activity for the Claims Service Center Office or Center of Excellence, service, supervision, and security.
May oversee equitable collections of all claims in accordance with the terms of each insurance policy and in conformity with applicable laws, regulations, policies, practices, standards, and procedures to achieve the highest possible claims collections consistent with Company policy.
Determines action to be taken on claims submitted for the purpose of collection, resolving settlement issues, and obtaining policy interpretations; and provides advice on litigated cases within assigned COE or CSC.
Reviews the office clerical operation to ensure proper workflow, mail, and file circulation.
Responsible for compliance with published Company procedures regarding claims settlement, collections or salvage, as appropriate.
Approves direct report's expense accounts and payment of allocated claims expense beyond their authority.
Attends sales meetings to ensure good liaison, and to provide educational media to the agency force.
Attends trials/arbitrations, as appropriate.
Responsible for public relations; and represents the Company in local claims association.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Preferred Skills and Abilities
5-7 years PIP handling experience
1-3 years leadership experience
Experience in fast-paced, investigation driven, litigious PIP environment. Preferably: Michigan specific.

Physical Environment
Required job duties are normally performed in a climate-controlled office environment, but with exposure to some or all of the following environments when in the field:
Uncontrolled outside environmental conditions Excessive Noise Levels Chemicals Chemical/Biological Conditions Moving Mechanical Parts Areas considered dangerous Conditions, which could affect the respiratory system or skin such as: fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, oils, smoke, soot, or poor ventilation.
Education Requirements
Four-year college degree. Completion of, or actively pursuing a major insurance designation.
Experience Requirements
Completion of Claims Leadership Development or equivalent claims sponsored program required.
External candidates should have more than eight years of prior claims experience. The same time-on-job requirement is preferred for internal candidates.
